Holy Fuck: "The Pulse"
I saw Toronto's Holy Fuck last April when they opened for Wolf Parade for a bunch of shows and my impression was about as reactionary and explosive as their name suggests: Holy freaking GOD, man, these guys are good. I can liken their set to the unending barrage of other-wordly noise/dance/sweat/funk/noise that one experiences at their first rave, or bar mitzvah, or what-have-you. Needless to say, it was fucking intense.
Holy Fuck's second effort after their eponymous debut LP is another eponymous EP: a spastic collection of six songs that, at least for me, touch on something that neither The Knife nor LCD Soundsystem's latest have been able to do.
This song is like what Run Lola Run would sound like if it was compressed into one six-minute chase scene filmed at warp speed. I don't know how anyone can listen to this and not somehow feel like they've accomplished more in their day once the track's out... it's a little bewildering, but once you gather yourself and collect/refocus your senses you'll get what I'm saying. Go ahead, try it out... just don't say I didn't warn you: it's almost as addictive as Nutella + banana crepes (sprinkled with crack, of course).
The fine folks over at Said The Gramophone have another track, one that features Owen Pallet (Final Fantasy) on violin!
