Taste of Brighton Rock
By Ian Strachen
The Festival season is fast approaching, but the weekend saw an awesome new event making an early mark on this year's musical calendar.
Unlike any other festival, The Great Escape took place over three days and incorporated over 160 bands in ten of Brighton's best venues...
The festival wasn't all about big name acts though and Thursday night belonged to the Canadian contingent. Fifteen Canadian bands made their way over The Pond and the highlight was undoubtedly Toronto-based electro trash outfit Holy F***.

Canada Invades Brighton
By Ian Strachen
The Great Escape Festival got off to an inventive start last night as the event's visiting Canadian contingency made Brighton rock. Over 160 Bands will play during the three day event...
There's no time to stop during The Great Escape, so it was straight to Ocean Rooms, where the Canadian extravaganza continued with Toronto-based blip-hoppers Holy F***.
Armed with an odd collection of ancient keyboards, guitar effects pedals and even a film editing machine, they smothered the grinning crowd with an outrageous collection of infectious bass, thunderous drums and absolute weirdness.
I couldn't even begin to describe some of the "instruments" they managed to get noises out of, but like a low-fi Chemical Brothers, the beats just kept coming.
Legend has it that Holy F*** don't rehearse and the gig felt more like a jam session, with equipment piping up on the fold out tables they used as keyboard stands and frantic swapping of cables mid song.
But their blend of hip-hop beats, rocking bass and inventive use of equipment make them a definitive must see.
